Our lovely 42" Panasonic Plasma TV busted last week, one year to the day that it was delivered. Totally uncanny! Fortunately, repairs are covered under warranty. Unfortunately, it meant that we were without our beloved plasma for about one week while we waited for the new part to arrive.
I say unfortunately with a touch of irony. We have a 37" plasma in our bedroom and a 27" CRT in the basement, so it's not like it's the end of the world. Plus we have a Slingbox so we can still watch our PVRed shows even with the living room TV busted. Poor me, you're thinking, right?
Anyway, all of that fabulous, brain-draining technology aside, I must confess that I have rather enjoyed having our living room TV in its non-functioning state. When the hubby and I sit down to dinner, we eat at the couch, while we watch some recorded show off of the PVR. We'll maybe exchange a few words to each other, but that's it. With our TV broken, however, we have been more inclined to eat at the kitchen table, enjoying a few rounds of backgammon while we eat, and exchanging more than just a few words through the meal.
As I write this post, the TV repair guy is just finishing up here, and we'll have our TV back in no time. In some ways, it's a real shame, because now we can just turn that TV on as we please. At the same time, I hope that this week without the TV has taught us both that there IS life after 42" plasma TV, and that we will and did survive. I also hope that we still continue to have dinner at the kitchen table. After all, a little game or two of backgammon never hurt anyone!
